Q

why aren't there more ebooks available (No James Lee Burke, no Sara Paretsky, no Michael Connelly,Michael Palmer etc)

Many of my favorite authors are not carried at all (as ebooks) and others have just 1 or 2 titles. Are there plans to carry all titles by a particular author?

Answer

There are a few reasons why you may not see your favorite authors.

1. Either the publisher or author restricts their work to print only.

2. Some publishers do not let libraries purchase ebooks at all. (Simon & Schuster, Harper-Collins, Penquin, McMillan and the subsidiaries)

3. Some publishers allow only the audio version of a new title with the ebook coming out later (if at all)

4. This is a new collection and it will take time for us to build up enough that everything isn't checked out or on hold. We still have a budget and still purchase other formats and are working out how much goes to which format.

5. All the titles by a particular author are checked out and you have it set to show only those available.

We will purchase as many titles as we can, given the restrictions listed in 1-4. You may use the Purchase Suggestion form for ebooks just as for books, CDs, etc. The form is located on the homepage under "How do I ...?" (left navigation bar) or directly to

https://alam1.aclibrary.org/acquire~S2 Be sure to specify "ebook" or "eAudiobook" on the form.

How do I...?

We are very excited that we can bring ebooks to our library members. Check back often for new additions which are added every week.
