Answer

Thanks for thinking of the library. We may or may not add donations to the library collection. Our Friends of the Fremont Library also sells books and other material both donated to us and discards from our collection three times a year, and when we do not add a donation to the library, we often give it to the Friends to sell.

We do have some restrictions about what we can accept, even if we are not adding; some material may be too old to be of interest to potential buyers, either. Perhaps needless to say, it also needs to be in reasonably good condition.  The library cannot use:

  • Items that are yellowed, musky or dusty
  • Books with loose pages or dog-eared covers
  • Textbooks or encyclopedias over 5 years old
  • Computer books published more than 3 years ago
  • Law books published more than 2 years ago
  • Medical books published more than 3 years ago
  • Travel books published more than 3 years ago
  • Magazines over 3 years old, except for National Geographic
  • Videos or DVDs or music without their original covers-no homemade tapes, CDs or DVDs

We have a loading dock on the Paseo Padre side of the building which is open from about 8:00-4:30 M-F where donations can be left. I would especially encourage this if there is a lot. If there is not so much, and these hours don't work for you, you can bring them into the library.

 Thanks again.
