Q. How do I know which app to use with OverDrive?
I want to check out a book from OverDrive, but I'm confused about which app I should use! How can I determine what I need?
There are five different ways you can use OverDrive depending on your needs and the type of device you have. Here are some tips to help you decide the one that is right for you:
Libby is OverDrive's newest app, and it is the one that is most easy to use. If you have an iOS or Android device, this is the best one for you. You can send eBooks to Kindle from Libby.
Unfortunately, Libby is not available for Kindle Fire.
This app works with Kindle Fire. This is also the app to use if you want to watch movies.
It is available for iOS and Android, but we recommend using Libby instead unless you are checking out videos. You can send eBooks to Kindle from Classic OverDrive.
Classic OverDrive is more accessible for screen-readers than Libby, so use this app if you need help reading the screen.
Adobe Digital Editions (ADE):
You can use ADE on your Mac or PC, or on your iOS or Android device. It requires an Adobe ID, and can be very difficult to use. This is the only way to read PDF eBooks from OverDrive.
Kindle App (or Kindle eReader):
OverDrive offers Kindle eBooks that can be read on a Kindle app or Kindle eReader or Kindle Fire device. You will need a browser, Libby, or the OverDrive app to send your Kindle eBook to your Kindle device.
In Your Browser:
You can read/listen to most of the eBooks and eAudiobooks at OverDrive right in the browser! If you like the Libby experience, try https://libbyapp.com/. If you prefer the Classic OverDrive experience, try https://aclibrary.overdrive.com/
If you would like to watch streaming videos in the browser, use https://aclibrary.overdrive.com/
